The initial impressions of the Delta 2 Max after taking it out of the box are very positive. At 50 lbs, it has some heft to it but the integrated handle makes it manageable for one person to carry. But more importantly, the Delta 2 Max weighs 30% less than other solar generators with a similar capacity!

The overall build quality appears robust and durable – it seems like it could withstand some bumps and drops without any issues.

In the box along with the power station itself, you get:

  • A 12V car charging cable rated to 8 amps
  • A user manual and quick start guide

If you purchase the bundle with solar panels included, then you will also receive a second box containing:

The Delta 2 Max has a comprehensive selection of output ports. You get 6 AC outlets, which is more than most competitors in this size class. It has 2 USB-C ports capable of 100W charging for high-power devices like laptops. There are also 2 standard USB-A ports for slower charging of phones and tablets.

One especially useful inclusion is the dual DC5521 ports. These allow you to directly power 12V DC devices like car refrigerators without going through the AC inverter. This saves energy since there’s no AC conversion loss (which otherwise would be around 20%).

EcoFlow Delta 2 Max - Front & Back Panels

On the input side, the Delta 2 Max can charge extremely quickly from an AC wall outlet at up to 1,800W. This allows the power station to charge from zero to 80% in only about 45 minutes: the fastest charging rate in its class.

There are also 2 * 500W solar charging inputs that combine to allow up to 1,000W of solar input. This corresponds to 2 very efficient MPPT solar charge controllers handling up to 60V and 500W each. More on how this performs in real life later.

Overall, the port selection provides a great deal of flexibility no matter what devices or appliances you need to run. I don’t have many complaints here – EcoFlow did an excellent job.

Like all the EcoFlow power stations, the Delta 2 Max comes with a handy LCD display. On the color display, you can find all the key information for your solar generator, including battery level, time to fully charge, and input and output power.

Charging Speed and Battery Capacity Tests

Of course, the two most important specs for any portable power station are:

  1. How quickly it can recharge.
  2. How much effective capacity does the battery have

Here’s how the Delta 2 Max performed in a series of tests to quantify those.

AC Recharging Speed

How quickly can the Delta 2 Max recharge from 0% to 80% using the included AC wall charging cable? EcoFlow claims it can charge at up to 1,800W, which would fully recharge the 2,048Wh battery in around 43 minutes.

Real-world testing shows that the Delta 2 Max pulled about 1,700W from the wall outlet. This equates to less than 1 hour to charge from 0% to 80% – very fast indeed!

NOTE: to charge from 0% to 100% will take about 1h and 30 minutes because lithium batteries start charging more slowly when they reach 80%. This is done b the charge controller to prevent overheating the battery.

While it fell a bit short of the advertised 1,800W charging rate, 1,590W is still extremely quick. The Delta 2 Max has the fastest AC recharging speed of any comparable power station currently available on the market.

Interestingly, it is also possible to combine AC and solar charging for even faster charging times. In this case, the power station can take in up to 2460W of charging, which would allow to go from 0% to 100% in about 1h! Or from 0% to 80% in just 35 min.

Solar Charging Speed

Now, let’s move to the solar charging capabilities of this off-grid solar generator. How quickly does the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max recharge using solar power?

It has a maximum 1,000W solar input, split between 2 * 500W ports. This means that in ideal conditions you could charge the power station from 0 to 80% in about 2 hours using 1000W of solar.

Using four 220W EcoFlow solar panels in full sunlight oriented at the optimal angle, It is possible to achieve a combined solar input of 870W. This results in a recharge time from 0 to 100% of approximately 3 hours. Very good!

This was under ideal sunny conditions. With less solar irradiation the charging speed will decline significantly. But in a sunny climate, the Delta 2 Max will charge remarkably fast from solar.

12V or 24V Charging With The Car Adapter

If instead, you need to charge the power station using the cigarette lighter socket, then you can use the included adapter to XT60. However, this has a maximum of just 100W at 12V, so it is going to take 20+ hours to charge it just using this method.

Given the long charging time using this method, the 12V charging option is just something that can be useful in case of emergency or if you don’t mind having to wait so long, like for example if you are on a long trip with your RV.

However, if you have a 24V vehicle, then you can charge the power station in about half of the time. So, for example, if you have a 24V camper, you can charge it using the cigar lighter socket in about 10 hours.

Battery Capacity Test

First up was the capacity test. EcoFlow rates the LFP battery inside the Delta 2 Max at 2,048 Wh. To see if this was accurate, the battery was drained completely while measuring the power that was getting out. Here are the results:

  • AC output measured capacity: 1,820 Wh
  • DC output measured capacity: 1,718 Wh

Both results are at the top of the normal range for power stations in this price range. I’m satisfied that the Delta 2 Max lives up to its promised capacity.

Powering Devices and Appliances

Next, I wanted to test how well the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max could power a variety of common household devices and appliances:

  • Laptop – No issues
  • Mini fridge – No issues
  • AC unit – 850W – No issues
  • Heater – 1,500W – Powered on but the inverter fan started going fast

The Delta 2 Max can power most devices without any hiccups. High-draw appliances like a heater made the internal cooling fans spin up to high speed, creating some noise. This is understandable given how much power those devices can pull.

The Delta 2 Max is able to power appliances up to 2400W, so it is excellent for off-grid camping with your RV. On the other hand, you may struggle with it if you need to run some high-power power tools or other extremely energy-hungry items for extended periods of time.

All in all, the Delta 2 Max exceeds my expectations in terms of reliably powering most household devices and appliances. A 2,400W power station like this is best suited for essentials like fridges or freezers, lights, fans, laptops, CPAP machines, and small appliances. Forget about running large power tools or your whole house.

Not bad for this compact and portable solar generator. However, if you need something to power your entire house, you may have to choose a model with more capacity and with a larger inverter, like the EcoFlow Delta Pro version.

Noise levels

The new EcoFlow Delta 2 Max is really quiet, in fact, at max fans when pulling 2400W from the power station, the noise level is below 50 db from just a meter away. Not bad!

EcoFlow did a very good job to keep this solar generator very quiet. They improved the heat sinks and increased the size of the fans so that they have to run much slower to provide an adequate level of cooling. I can say that there’s definitively a well-designed cooling system for the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max.

The company has been clearly improving on this. In fact, EcoFlow used to have one of the loudest systems in the past. So, if you have a friend who has an old EcoFlow model and told you that it’s very loud, don’t worry about that, because the company improved a lot on this.

To maximize solar charging speed, I recommend buying the Delta 2 Max bundled with EcoFlow portable solar panels. These folding panels come in a handy canvas case that doubles as a stand. Simply unzip the case and it reveals a reflective backing to bounce extra sunlight to the rear of the bifacial solar panels. This noticeably increases their output compared to standard panels in my testing.

These 220W EcoFlow panels provide very good value for money when you consider their high efficiency and bifacial design. Plus MC4 Solar connectors make them compatible with the Delta 2 Max’s XT60 inputs with the bundled adapter cables.

The only downside is that the fabric case is a bit cumbersome to set up compared to panels with built-in kickstands. But it’s a fair tradeoff for the added portability the soft case provides.

Pass-Through Charging and EPS (UPS)

The EcoFlow Delta 2 Max also features AC and DC pass-through charging, meaning that you can charge it and draw power from it at the same time.

So if you are charging it with AC and/or solar, and you connect a device to the power station, it will be able to pass the necessary electricity to power your device without any issue.

Furthermore, EcoFlow offers an EPS functionality comparable to a UPS. This means that while charging the solar generator using the AC cable, you can simultaneously operate devices or appliances connected to it.

In the event of an AC power interruption due to a blackout, the power station smoothly transitions into UPS mode, instantly delivering the necessary power from its battery.

This swift transition ensures uninterrupted functionality, ensuring, for instance, that your desktop computer will not shut down due to a power supply shift. Very good!

Quality of the integrated sine-wave inverter

How good is the integrated inverter in the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max? If you are a musician, this is an extremely important feature for you. So, can you use this power station for your AM radio, your band, or your audio system without having excess hiss on the amplification system?

When you convert an amplificator to the Delta 2 Max, you will barely hear any hiss. The sound is very clean, as you would expect from a high-end product like this. Thumbs up!

EcoFlow App Features

Connecting the Delta 2 Max to the EcoFlow app via Bluetooth or wifi gives you access to a suite of advanced features and controls. The app is very user-friendly and well designed overall.

Some of the key features include:

  • Gives access to all your EcoFlow products on one screen
  • Remote control from anywhere in the world (if your devices have internet access)
  • Remote powering on/off of the power station and inverter
  • Detailed graphs of wattage in/out, voltage, remaining runtime, etc
  • Ability to set charge/discharge limits to prolong battery life
  • Firmware updates
  • Warning/error notifications
  • Additional accessories and support links

The only downside is that connecting via Bluetooth limits the control range to around 30 feet. You can optionally connect over WiFi to control the Delta 2 Max from anywhere with an internet connection.

But the basic functionality works fine over Bluetooth within line-of-sight. Personally, I wouldn’t feel the need to mess with WiFi connectivity for my uses. The app is a nice perk but certainly not mandatory if you’d prefer to operate it offline.

EcoFlow Delta 2 Max PROs and CONs

Based on my extensive research, here are the main pros and cons I found with the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max power station:


  • Recharges incredibly fast from AC and solar
  • Solid app with lots of useful features and controls
  • Very portable given the large 2kWh capacity
  • LFP battery means 3,000+ cycles for long-term reliability
  • Powerful 2,400W pure sine wave inverter
  • Can be expanded to 6kWh for extended runtimes
  • Wide range of output ports for maximum flexibility
  • Silent internal fans
  • Robust design


  • Limited to 2×500 watts of solar input power
  • No wheels included at this price point
  • No MC4 solar connectors if you don’t purchase the version with solar panels

The Delta 2 Max has a lot more going for it than against it. The pros far outweighed the cons in my opinion.

This portable off-grid solar generator is in a sweet spot where the battery capacity is large enough for your RV camping needs and small and light enough to be easily portable.

Who is the Delta 2 Max Good For?

The EcoFlow Delta 2 Max is a great choice if:

  • You need backup power during outages for essentials like fridges, lights, etc.
  • You want to recharge small electronic devices while camping/off-grid.
  • You need portable power for medical devices like CPAP machines.
  • You want a compact emergency power or off-grid source for an RV, tiny home, or cabin.

Built to withstand rugged conditions, the Delta 2 Max is encased in a durable metal chassis with reinforced corners. This makes it resistant to impacts and allows it to handle rough treatment during outdoor excursions.

This powerful lithium power station packs a lot of capacity in a portable package. Just don’t expect to run large appliances – the 2,400W inverter is best suited for running a few necessities during outages or while living a minimalist life off-the-grid.

Is the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max Worth the Price?

At right around $1,899 for the power station alone, the Delta 2 Max is certainly a premium product. But given the fast charging speeds, long-lasting LFP battery, versatile outlets, and overall quality of all the components, I think it earns its price tag for the right buyer.

Key competitors like the Jackery Explorer 2000 Pro almost match the Delta 2 Max in certain areas, but fall short in others. Only the Delta 2 Max combines fast charging, a huge number of outlets, and long battery life.

So for your typical small home backup needs, I think it’s easily worth the investment.

However, I would not recommend the Delta 2 Max as a primary whole-home backup solution. The 2.4kW continuous power output is only enough to run a few essential devices and appliances – not your entire house.

For full home backup, you’d need to step up to something much larger like the EcoFlow Delta Pro with its 3.6kW output capability.

But if you’re looking for a flexible emergency power source to keep your most important devices up and running during an outage, the Delta 2 Max really shines.

Final Verdict

After checking out the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max for some time, I can confidently recommend it if you need an extremely versatile portable power station.

It exceeded my expectations in terms of charging speed, battery capacity, and ability to handle most household loads. The wide selection of AC and DC ports gives you maximum flexibility.
